How to style my long hair so my dad doesn't get mad?

im going on vacation this summer to see my grandparents and they are really strict and hate hippies and long hair. I have long, pretty curly hair (although its not an afro, it sprouts straight and then curls at the base, forming ringlets). My dad said I have to cut my hair or I can't go. My hair is about 6" long but doesnt look that way because it curls. I need to find a way to style my hair so that it looks neat and professional. My friend suggested slicking it back into a ponytail, but I don't think my hair is straight enough to do that.

Get some heavy duty gel, slick it back and spray the heck out of it with hairspray. It will be a helmet until you wash it out, but at least it will get you through the visit to see the grandparents. for a longer term solution, have it cut and shaped by a professional so it looks good growing out.

I would flat iron it and then put it in a french twist or a ponytail

Just put it up in a bun and no one will have anything to complain about.

Could you just tell them you volunteered for an evaluation experiment your science teacher asked you to do?! It could be "How fast does a boys hair grow compared to a girls?" Parents always like things better when you involve school or learning... just a thought. good luck :)

a curly ponytail or bun is really nice and cute, or since your hair is so long, maybe a higher ponytail

tighter curls

maybe a nice french braid or fishtail is pretty sleek! ;-P

I agree with you on that, curly hair'd people shouldnt wear it slicked back. Depending on you type of curles, if the bang area isnt curly, you could get like the long-side-swept bangs cut at a salon. -for style in the front. As for the rest, a loose french braid always looks good in curly hair. An easy do that will make it look shorter, is do like a messy bun, where you put a pony tail and just bunch the hair up and stick another elastic over it having some of the ends sprouting out.

Here is a great website of links so you can find some more ideas for your hair. Best of luck! Keep those locks! ;)
